Teaching Philosophy

Classroom Management
Throughout my schooling I have learned how essential classroom management is for new and even established teachers. Without this a teacher spends more time trying to punish the class rather than teaching the students. Without proper management of a classroom not much will be accomplished. To obtain good classroom management a teacher must realize that rules, consequences, and discipline should be understood by all children. A good way for children to learn the rules is to have them help you make the rules, if they feel they had a part in making the rules they will more likely to follow them. I also believe, to have good classroom management a teacher must respect her students and the students respect her.

Respect and Trust
Without respect you can not trust each other. Trust is a huge concept for children. They need to know they can trust you to take care of them and look out for their best interest. With the trust for one another, the teacher for the student and the student for the teacher, a teacher will be able to understand and show that they care for each individual student.

Classroom Jobs
Children need responsibility, if they are not given this how will they learn what it means to be responsible. By assigning jobs or tasks to students you help eliminate the discipline problems because students will be afraid to lose their responsibility. Also assigning jobs or tasks to children gives them a sense of belonging.

Fun and Enjoyable Lessons
In order to be a good teacher what you teach has to be fun to learn. Captivating children's attention is important. If I want them to be interested in coming to school then I have to make how we learn fun for them so they will look forward to coming to class everyday to see what we will doing that day. At the same time children need breaks in between their subjects all day. The goal is to be able to let them have their two or three minutes for a break, but be able to get them back on track. Being able to get them back on track comes from good classroom management. If the child knows what is expected and the rules and procedures then there shouldn't be any problems.

Technology
Part of what will make learning fun is learning how to take it to the next level. One thing I will try with my students, the older ones, is blogs. Blogs will allow for them to show journal entries, but they can do them from home on the computer. I think this will help them learn how to use computers more effectively. It will also allow for communication with them over the summer if I were to post up letters or summer work on my blog for them to see. By doing this they will be able to use the internet, and learn how to type, and communicate using technology.

Final Thoughts
For me teaching will be a learning experience. If what I am doing in class isn't working then I need to be able to change my way of teaching. Because at the end of the day it is my job to see that the children are learning and striving to be the best that they can be. Seeing a child excel and learn is my whole reason for becoming a teacher.
